In my novel, The Gossamer Thread, the anthropomorphic character Feather becomes the magical element, the divine component, the depth psychologist linking the earthly realm to the spiritual, the secular to the godly. Through her journey and poetic voice, I am able to bring forth much of what I do in my consulting room — question everything – including God (or as I call Her in the book – Source.) Toggling back and forth from character to character, “tiktok video download” from past to present, from the earthly to the divine, the reader is pulled into this questioning and forced to ask themselves the same questions posed by Feather. And in doing so, the reader becomes more than just a passive entity. They become active, dynamic, full of life and energy – toggling like the Feather herself, between the divine and earthly, between the past and present. They become more brave, more bold, more willing to open themselves up to the unknown and risk making conscious, mindful choices.
Like Feather herself who heard the desperate cry for help from the rabbi in Auschwitz below and detached herself from her mother’s wing, we too must separate ourselves from that which appears comfortable and known. We too must trust that our calling on earth is more than just a blind following of those who came before, a hopeless monotony of mundane tasks that need daily completion. We must view the world with the eyes of a poet, the ears of a musician, loosening ourselves from the “known”, the “concrete”, the “daily newsfeed,” which blends and mixes together our human frailties in a seething cauldron of numbness and mechanical, technological activity. We must fall softly, listen tenderly and open our hearts delicately, dancing and floating effortlessly toward one another like the small yet intrepid character, Feather.
